The Coral Springs High School gaming program continues to be a top elective choice for students.
Better-known as “Colts Gaming,” Jason Freedman, Game and Simulation/Programming Instructor and C.T.E. Department Chairman, has helped grow Colts Gaming from a class to a community.
“In my ten years running the gaming program, competitive gaming (e-Sports) has grown significantly, with former CSHS alumni now competing in e-Sports at the collegiate level,” he said.
With over 150 members last year, Freedman plans on continuing the tradition this year.
Students can enroll in the computer elective and join the gaming club, allowing them to receive both the academic and social aspects.
“I want students to feel like they’re competing in a sport. We have club apparel, stream our matches on Twitch, and have partnered with Flynn’s Arcade & More, a video arcade in Margate,” he added.
Students who enroll in the elective can learn how to create classic video titles, a program in multiple languages, and create 3D models and animations. Colts Gaming ranked at the top of the nation for Rocket League last school year and is hoping for the same result again.
The gaming club meets Monday afternoons from 2:40 – 3:30 p.m.
