Sofia Palhano has a passion for drama and the performing arts.
She plays the lead role, Emma, in Emma, a Pop Musical to be performed on February 27, 28, and March 1 at Coral Springs High School.
Palhano, a student assistant director and director of music for the play, will be in charge of rehearsals while theater director Barbara Krantz is out for two weeks to donate a kidney to her husband.
“This is the first time I have been a director, and it is more stressful than I expected,” Palhano said.
According to Palhano, 17, a senior from Coral Springs with a 4.8 GPA, one must love acting to be successful at it.
“I want to have a career in the theater and maybe perform on Broadway,” she said.
The play focuses on a character, Emma, a private school senior who tries to play a matchmaker for her classmates and is considered an antihero. Samuel Douglas, 16, a junior from Coral Springs, plays the role of Jeff, a smart high school student who becomes a substitute science teacher for freshmen and sophomores, according to Krantz.
