After the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, cousins, best friends, and Parkland residents Ethan Behm and Dylan Parcheta began raising funds for nonprofits in several victims’ names.
They created their own nonprofit, Carts 4 A Cause. which rebuilds used golf carts into new ones, then raffles them off, donating 100 percent of the proceeds.
Behm, a graduate of North Broward Preparatory School and a freshman at the University of Central Florida, and Parcheta, a senior at MSD, have raised money through Carts 4 A Cause for local nonprofits Make Our Schools Safe, Orange Ribbons for Jamie, and Meadow’s Movement.
This year’s event benefits the Swim 4 Nick Foundation, founded in memory of Nicholas Dworet, whose short life was taken from him on February 14, 2018. He left behind his mother, Annika, his father, Mitch, and his brother Alex.
He started swimming when he was just seven and flourished in his last few years in high school to become a top athlete, even earning a swimming scholarship to the University of Indianapolis.
On Sunday, November 6, Church by the Glades holds its annual charity car from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., where Carts 4 A Cause will be holding a raffle. Admission to the event is free, with food trucks, live music, raffle items, and stunning cars to browse.
