High school bowling is underway, and all four Coral Springs schools are having terrific seasons so far at SpareZ in Davie.
Coral Springs Charter
The Coral Springs Charter boys and girls teams have combined to win 54 matches this year. The boy’s team is 21-15. Derek Lai and Tyler Harris lead them as bother bowlers knocked down 3,000 pins this year. Demario Laroda has over 2,000, while Rashad Bhaiji ranks fourth, followed by Mateo Guzman and Jeaden Gaspar.
Head Coach Andy Groothius calls this the biggest roster he has ever had and sees the team continue to grow every day.
“With Harris’ leadership working with the younger bowlers to continue a thriving program, like the true captain he is,” said Groothius. “The kids are having fun, learning, and competing at an incredible level.”
The girl’s team has won 34 of their 36 matches this year. Faith Tucker has eclipsed 2,500 pins. Audrey Gold and Alexis Diaz have each knocked down over 1,200. Jazz Chung is averaging a score over 100, while Gianna Candio, Sofia Diaz, Mia Rodriguez, and Giovanna Gurgel have all contributed to the incredible start.
“Diaz is doing an amazing job, always staying positive and providing a great model for our younger players to follow as captain,” Groothius added. “The girls are incredibly dedicated, and I see them going a very long way for a very long time.”
Coral Glades
The Coral Glades boys bowling team sits in fourth place with a record of 18-18 under first-year head coach Idani0 Campo. Anthony Catalano and Lane Brainard are the top bowlers, while Jackson Sepiello and Derek Gagne have knocked over more than 2,000 pins combined. Jared Dubrow, Tanney Fay, and Sal Campo are next in pins for the Jaguars.
The girl’s team is in second place with a record of 19-17. Their top performer has been Kaiden Littman, who is averaging 104. Raquel Christie, Casie Zakanjian, Hailey Stein, Sydney Littman, Auri Harding and Angelina Rizzuto make up Coral Glades.
J.P. Taravella
J.P. Taravella only has a boys’ team which has won 32 of their 36 matches this year. Zackary Kimball leads all bowlers in Coral Springs with a 210 average, and Cesar Medina is second on the team with 3,212 pins. Jeremy Smith has knocked down over 2,000 pins, and Bryce Collins, Anthony Mountcastle, and Giovanni Pianelli have over 1,000. Rey Maharaj and Evan Kalleen round out the Trojans’ bowling team.
Cora Springs High School
Coral Springs High School only has a boys’ team with nine wins this year. Led by Marcus Mills. Jason Zimbal and Liana Guillen, each have combined for 3,200 pins, while Kiara Hampton, Alexandra Mendoza, Gavin Kaplan, and Kaitlynn Cooper all have competed this year.
