A Coral Springs Middle School 7th-grader demonstrated a sense of leadership in an essay, winning second place in the Florida League of Cities “If I Were Mayor” essay contest.
Isabella Renert wrote that if she were mayor for the day, she would help the homeless, make sure the city is clean, and schools are safe.
Her teacher Bettania Opthof said she was very proud of her.
“This young lady is every teacher’s dream student. To say that she is highly gifted is undeniable, but what makes her truly special is her kind heart and love of family, friends, and community. With future leaders like Isabella, I feel confident that our great country will be in good hands.”
Mayor Scott Brook said it was a privilege for the city to have such a bright, courageous, and caring young resident who understands the value of community and the importance of protecting the residents —especially the vulnerable.
“Isabella is a stellar example of a youth leader with a mindset of community service,” said Mayor Brook.
Once the City of Coral Springs Commission resumes in-person meetings, the mayor plans to have her attend and formally be recognized.
