The Coral Springs Middle School band program received a new, high-quality suite of rooms to accommodate a successful and growing program.
This includes one large room for full bands to practice, three ensemble rooms, and five practice rooms, all carpeted and furnished with new furniture.
According to Keyla Concepción, spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools, the cost for the band suite project was $90,739.03.
“We had been practicing in the media center, and now we can practice in a high-quality band room,” said band director Alexander Arcia.
The Coral Springs Middle School band program has much to celebrate. The wind ensemble earned straight superior ratings at a recent music performance assessment. The symphonic band participated but did not receive a formal evaluation. Of the 75 students who participated in a solo assessment, 57 received superior ratings, and 13 received excellent ratings.
“Our band has done well, and we have gained support from the parents. We have about 140 students, and we hope to have about 200 next year,” he said.
Some top eighth graders have positive memories and look forward to being in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment.
Charlize Deidrick, a percussionist, said she enjoyed performing at Universal Studios. “I have made many friends in the band, and I enjoyed marching in the parade,” she said.
Benjamin Kopet, a percussionist, said, “Being in the band is fun. It takes work and skill to be in the band, and I have made friends,” he said.
Tatiana Hand, a percussionist invited to join the Eagle Regiment as an eighth grader, said she has enjoyed being in the band. It has given her the opportunity to play at football games and competitions.
Reece Fenick plays the euphonium and looks forward to joining the Eagle Regiment. “It is much fun to be in the band.”
