The Coral Springs Museum of Art announced its latest exhibition, featuring a diverse group of artists.
The opening reception is set for Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors to the Main Gallery will encounter the work of Edison Peñafiel, Amanda Linares, and Mitzi Falcón.
Edison Peñafiel, originally from Ecuador, migrated to the United States in 2002. Since graduating from Florida International University’s Fine Arts program in 2016, Peñafiel has focused on large-scale, immersive installations. His art has been showcased at prestigious venues such as The Bass Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami. Peñafiel has earned numerous awards, including the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art and the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, for his work that delves into contemporary societal issues.
Amanda Linares, a Cuban-born artist now based in Miami, uses a variety of media, from design and drawing to installation and photography. Her art, influenced by literature and spatial awareness, explores identity, displacement, and reconnection themes. Linares is known for her innovative use of reflection, transparency, and found objects, and she is currently a resident artist at the Bakehouse Art Complex.
Mitzi Falcón, trained as a designer and visual communicologist in Mexico, addresses contemporary social issues such as neurodivergence, migration, and gender inequalities in her work. Falcón’s visual art, which includes photography and scenography, seeks to provoke reflection and critical analysis by including symbolic objects and the recreation of scenic fiction.
In the East Gallery, Kristin Beck, a native Floridian, will showcase her work. Beck’s art is deeply influenced by the vibrant culture of Florida, often featuring colorful characters and crustacean-hued memories. With nearly 50 exhibitions to her credit, including Best in Show at Girls’ Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Beck’s work captures the essence of her environment. In 2024, she received an Artist Support grant from the Broward Cultural Division.
The Coral Springs Museum of Art is located at 2855A Coral Springs Drive. Its hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
