Coral Springs has named Frank Babinec to be their new Fire Chief. Babinec, a City employee for the past fourteen year is the former Deputy Fire Chief, and has been serving as the Interim Fire Chief since Mark Curran’s retirement in last December.
After an extensive two-month national search, City Manager Erdal Donmez announced the appointment on Wednesday.
“We have a unanimous recommendation to have Frank Babinec become the next Fire Chief,” said Donmez. “He is well respected in our organization and became interim fire chief when Mark Curran retired. His leadership will benefit the men and women of our Fire Department, our organization and our community.”
“From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a firefighter but I never thought it would lead to this,” said Babinec. “This is truly an honor for me and I want to thank the Commission and City Manager for their support. We – because it’s a team effort – [I] won’t let you down.” – Fire Chief Frank Babinec
Babinec holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Thomas University and an MBA in Public Administration from Columbia Southern University.
In his previous capacity as Deputy Chief, Babinec helped guide 200 employees in eight fire stations and certified training center. He also participated in negotiating and managing the collective bargain agreements and managing inter-local agreements.
Since joining the City in 1993, Babinec has moved up through the ranks from firefighter to Fire Chief.
“To the men and women of the Coral Springs Fire Department, we have a long and exciting road ahead of us. It’s an honor to be the 11th Fire Chief of this great organization.”
