Coral Springs State Rep. Dan Daley announced Monday that he will not run for the Florida Senate District 30 seat and instead will seek another term in the Florida House of Representatives.
Daley revealed his decision in a statement on social media after speculation about whether he would enter the race following state Sen. Tina Polsky’s recent announcement that she would not seek reelection.
“After a great deal of thought and many conversations with supporters, community leaders, and residents across the district, I have decided not to run for the State Senate seat,” Daley wrote.
The Democrat said the decision was difficult, given his longstanding ties to the communities that make up the district.
“This decision is disappointing personally because I truly love this community,” Daley wrote. “I’ve served parts of this district as an elected official since 2012 and have spent nearly twenty years involved in public service and civic life here. This is not just somewhere on a map to me. It is home.”
“For years, I prepared seriously for the opportunity to run for this seat … Over the last several weeks, it became increasingly clear that the path forward for a local, community-driven campaign had narrowed considerably due to decisions being made well outside the neighborhoods and communities this district was created to represent,” he wrote.
Daley did not identify the decisions or individuals he was referring to.
“While I am disappointed by that reality, I remain incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and friendship so many people have shown me throughout this process.”
Daley currently represents House District 96, which includes Coral Springs. Before his election to the Florida House in 2019, he served as a Coral Springs city commissioner and vice mayor.
His announcement follows former Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book’s recent launch of her campaign for Senate District 30, which includes Coral Springs, Parkland, and Coconut Creek. Book’s campaign has secured endorsements from key figures including Polsky, Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman, and U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz.
By opting against a Senate bid, Daley leaves Book as the most prominent declared candidate in the race for the Democratic-leaning seat.
“I look forward to running for another term in the Florida House and continuing to serve the community that has placed its trust in me for so many years,” he wrote.
Daley thanked supporters who encouraged him to explore a Senate campaign and pledged to remain active in public service.
“Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve,” he wrote. “I look forward to continuing that work in the years ahead, no matter what my official role may be. First and foremost, I’m your neighbor and a fellow Floridian, working for a better future for us all.”
