The fall sports season continued this week, with Coral Springs Schools competing in cross country and golf.
The City Championship was held on Tuesday at Tradewinds Parks, with four high schools from Coral Springs competing.
J.P. Taravella
The J.P. Taravella boys team finished in first place, led by Elijah Vessells, who placed second at 17:42.7. Scardy Fils finished fourth, with Akeem Beckford and Craig Dennis placing eighth and ninth, respectively. Dominic Martinez, Anthony Duncan, and Ali Mustafa ran well, with Donald Lee, Darren Gadson, and Talal Mustafa all racing.
Qyrah Spann-Pierre finished fourth at 22:09.2. Raquel Arne came in seventh. Ajah Arscottt, Alissa Lee, Cara Dennis, Caileen Canales, and Janiva Henrry helped JPT come in fifth.
Coral Springs High School
Jeffrey Belizaire won the boys race individually at 17:12.5 for Coral Springs High School. Dimitri Thomas placed third, followed by Gregory Hamilton, Matthew Campbell, Magnus Berta, David LaFleche, and Gonzalo Arce.
The girls team also placed second as a team, with Angelica Macarulay placing fifth at 2:18.8. Gabriella Gentilhomme and Olivia Higgins placed ninth and 14 respectively, with Bergyne Darang, Deanna Harris, and Nyla Clinton helped contribute to the strong result.
Coral Springs Charter
Coral Springs Charter had both their teams place third. Eli Groothius shined again, coming in fifth place at 17:49.0. Lucas Werth, Jordan Head, and Chris Gayle completed their race with nearly identical times, while Shaun Blum placed 19th. Shivam Rangoo, Beylian De Jesus, Mason Grech, Aiden Lintz, and Blake Weter ran for the boys.
Kendall Parrott led the girls with her second-place finish, followed by Lily Richardson, nearly a minute behind in third. Abbie Foster and Brooke Schwartz both finished outside the top ten, with Marissa Micioni placing 25th, followed by Anabella Thornberry, Isabella Patino, Joni Andrews, Rowen Aarhus, Sophia Quinones, Natalia Gallo, Zoe Ortiz, and Jasmine Grbic running.
Coral Glades
The Jaguars came in fifth place as a team for Coral Glades, with Ali Abdallah in seventh. Jordan Blaise, Aaron Hilaire, Anderson Jean Baptiste, Lukas Trujillo and Quincy Ocasio competed.
Middle School
Westglades finished first in the boys race in the middle school race, followed by Coral Springs Charter, Forest Glen, Coral Springs, and Renaissance Charter School at University. Westglades also won the girls race with Coral Springs Charter, Forest Glen, Ramblewood, Coral Springs, and Renaissance following.
Golf
The BCAA Damian Huttenhoff Golf Championship also took place this week, with players from Coral Springs Charter and Coral Glades competing at the Country Club of Coral Springs.
The Panthers had a pair of female golfers who have been on the team for three years qualify for the tournament with Antonia Milosevich and Natalie Conte. Milosevich shot a 96, while Conte recorded an 89.
Coral Glades had four golfers compete, with Carter Brooks shooting a 75 and finishing eighth. James Transue placed 13th with a 78, while Brayden Peeler and Justin Laing also competed for the Jaguars. Shannon Glynn shot a 94 for the girls to finish 21st and will compete again on Tuesday, October 10, at Deer Creek.
