The City of Coral Springs is set to transform the exterior of its Center for the Arts with an inspiring new public art mural titled “TRAILS of Expression.”
According to the city, the vibrant and interactive mural, designed by renowned artist Vito Di Bari, is currently being painted and is expected to be completed by August 2024.
The project, which costs $150,000, aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city and celebrate its core values through art.
The initiative began with a Call to Artists issued on January 2, 2024, inviting artists to submit their proposals for the mural. Emphasizing the city’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Leadership, and Superior Service (TRAILS), the project attracted 34 applications.
After thorough review and selection by the Public Art Committee (PAC), Vito Di Bari’s “TRAILS of Expression” was chosen for its unique approach and alignment with the city’s vision.
The mural will adorn the west-facing wall of the Center for the Arts at 2855 Coral Springs Drive.
Di Bari’s design celebrates various art forms housed within the venue. The mural includes artistic figures such as an orchestra, director, musicians, actors, singers, and dancers, all set against a stage-like backdrop with abstract colors and lights.
The mural will incorporate polychrome cement relief sculptures, offering a 3D effect and adding depth and interaction to the artwork. Additionally, an augmented reality feature will allow viewers to use their smartphones to bring the mural to life, with characters engaging and moving to music, enhancing the overall experience.
The project is funded by the city’s Public Art Program, established in 2003 to support the integration of art in public spaces. The program is financed through contributions from new development and redevelopment projects, ensuring no ad valorem taxes are used for public art purchases.
The City Commission, at its meeting on April 17, 2024, approved the Purchase Agreement for the mural and authorized the appropriate city officials to execute the agreement.
