Daniel Foganholi, a Coral Springs resident and Republican candidate for Florida’s House of Representatives has been appointed to the Broward County School Board by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Foganholi, 36, a professional design consultant, is the son of Brazilian immigrants and a first-generation American. He takes over the District 5 seat formerly held by Rosalind Osgood, who vacated the seat to launch a successful run for the Florida Senate.
Foganholi, who is part of a slate of conservative candidates known as the America First P.A.C.T., will represent a mostly Democratic school board district made up mostly of Black residents, spanning parts of Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise, and Plantation, records show.
DeSantis has the authority to appoint school board members when a seat is vacated by a member seeking another elected office.
Foganholi will complete Osgood’s two-year term, which ends later this year. But he does not live in District 5 and is ineligible to run for the seat he now holds, records show.
He could, however, launch a run for either of two other school board seats: the county-wide seat now occupied by Donna Korn or the seat held by Parkland’s Lori Alhadeff in District 4, records show. In November, voters will go to the polls to elect several school board members.
Foganholi has not publicly said whether he will run for a school board seat.
“Daniel Foganholi is an America First Conservative…a first-generation American son of immigrants from Brazil who came to the United States with a dream of making a better life for their children,” reads his America First P.A.C.T. biography. “Raised in Coral Springs, throughout his life, Daniel has actively served in ministries and outreaches across south Florida. Now, as a father and family man, Daniel has more passion than ever to change his community for the future generations to come.”
According to a news release from DeSantis’ office, Foganholi is a design consultant for Arhaus, a furniture, and décor company. He works with the American Brazilian Coalition and is an active member of his church, Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America.
Foganholi has earned certificates in marketing and business management from Florida Atlantic University, according to the governor’s office.
Records show that Foganholi does not own a home in Coral Springs; however, his parent’s address is listed as the 2600 block of Northwest 94th Avenue.
According to the Broward Supervisor of Elections Office website, multiple candidates have filed paperwork to run for the District 5 school board seat, including Jeff Holness, the cousin of former Broward Mayor Dale Holness, and Gloria Ann Lewis, a former commissioner in Lauderdale Lakes.
Osgood, the former seat-holder, is now a state senator for Florida District 33.
