Eagles’ Haven Community Wellness Center is collecting letters to families affected by Texas Elementary Mass Shooting.
Created in March 2019, the center offers free support groups and wellness classes to help the Parkland/Coral Springs community recover from the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
Letters are accepted until Sunday, June 12, then mailed to Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin. The idea came from one of the Parkland victim’s mothers.
Rebecca Jarquin, Eagles’ Haven Program Director, said she received a call from Lori Alhadeff, who shared that letters of support she received from the community back in 2018 were very helpful after the tragic loss of her daughter Alyssa.
“We knew that this was an impactful way to express our love and support to the victims’ families in Uvalde and a chance for our community to heal. Eagle’s Haven was honored to organize this effort in memory of those lost to mass violence,” she added.
Eagle’s Haven is a wellness center created solely and mindfully for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School community, giving students, parents, family members, and faculty free access to crisis support and wellness services.
The center is powered by the local non-profit JAFCO, established in 1992 to provide services to abused and neglected children and those with developmental disabilities in South Florida.
To drop off letters of support for families of Uvalde victims, stop by the Eagles’ Haven facility at 5655 Coral Ridge Dr., open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the week and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends.
