A father and son have been arrested on charges of disturbing the peace after allegedly shouting racist death threats at neighbors and witnesses.
On October 4, the Coral Springs Police responded to a call regarding a neighbor dispute near the 5400 block of Northwest 122nd Drive.
According to records, upon arrival, officers encountered two men, Yang Bin Mei, 74, of Coral Springs, and his son, Xin Bing Mei, 44, of Coral Springs.
Officers described in eventual arrest records for both men how they observed an older male, later identified as Yang, approaching law enforcement while holding a black shovel. Despite repeated orders from officers, Yang initially refused to comply but ultimately placed the shovel near his garage.
Officers attempted to communicate with Yang, but he stated that his son, Xin, could translate for him.
Records showed that when officers contacted Xin Mei, he declined to assist in translating despite being informed that officers were investigating a potential battery incident involving the neighbors.
CSPD records show Xin became increasingly agitated and verbally abusive, referring to officers as “dumb asses” and refusing to cooperate further.
During the interaction, a passerby—an unidentified black male—became aware of the ongoing incident. At this point, Yang and Xin shifted their aggression from the officers to the uninvolved man.
Records show Xin allegedly began shouting racial slurs and threats, including, “Go to hell, nigga,” “Go to hell bitch,” and “I’ll put a bullet in your head, nigger” which were heard by multiple witnesses, including neighbors.
The disturbing nature of the threats and racist language drew several neighbors out of their homes to observe the commotion.
Officers instructed Xin to return inside the residence to de-escalate the situation, but he refused and continued to engage aggressively. When officers began detaining Yang, Xin advanced toward the officers despite orders to stay back.
Due to his verbal threats and aggressive behavior, Xin was also taken into custody.
Yang Bin Mei and Xin Bing Mei were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Xin also faces an additional charge of obstruction without violence.
Following their arrest, both men were transported to Broward County Main Jail. They have since been released after posting a $150 bond.
