A Forest Glen Middle School teacher and her family were displaced by a fire that gutted their Tamarac home Wednesday.
Ashley Edwards, a reading teacher, was beginning her work day “when she received a call from her husband that their beloved home was engulfed in flames,” according to a GoFundMe fundraiser page launched by Edwards’ friend, Maricia Johnson.
“As you can imagine, it is a call that nobody should ever receive,” Johnson wrote. “[Ashley] frantically went home and saw the fire department working on controlling the fire. With tears in her eyes, she watched the home she loved go up in flames within minutes.”
The home, located in the Woodmont neighborhood, was deemed uninhabitable by authorities.
The Edwards and their two children, both under three years of age, will have to live elsewhere for several months while their home is rebuilt, Johnson wrote.
“This young family will need all the help they can get to rent an apartment and purchase all the items for their home, as no items were salvageable. Any amount you can donate is much appreciated.”
