Chris Scinta is committed to the University of Miami, but the sensational left-hander still has a season to complete with the J.P. Taravella baseball team.
In one of his biggest starts of the year, Scinta shined pitching against the top team in State, Miami Springs Senior High School. In five innings, his hard-throwing left pitches struck out nine and allowed only three earned runs. Derek Rodriguez and Brandon Metiver tossed the final two innings to record the team’s 12th win in 15 games.
Offensively, Jassiel Valbuena and E.J. Burns hit two-run homers, while Aris Ribera and Anthony Quigley combined for three of the team’s five hits.
Head Coach Joe Giummule thought his team did not play well on Tuesday against Western and was ready for the challenge.
“I had a good feeling these guys were going to show up to the field with added motivation to prove the night before was a fluke, said Coach Giummule. “The sign of a good team is one that can have a short memory and find a way to win a game the next night versus a very good Miami springs team.”
Next, JPT will head on the road to face Coral Glades High School on Friday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. The Jaguars are 7-5 this season and have won two straight.
