Keandra Fulton was appointed as the new principal of Coral Springs Elementary School, assuming the position on January 23, following a few weeks as an interim principal.
After serving as an assistant principal at Deerfield Park Elementary School, she replaces Vonda Oliver, who has now taken up the role of principal at Palm Cove Elementary School in Pembroke Pines.
Fulton believes she was chosen for the position because she has experience in schools similar to Coral Springs Elementary School.
“I am instructional-minded, but I also help raise staff morale and work to create a family environment,” said Fulton.
According to her, a good principal is a servant-leader who collaborates with their teachers.
“Teachers have the greatest impact on student achievement, and my role is to support them and ensure they have the resources to do their jobs well.”
As a new principal, Fulton will work to build a positive culture. She believes putting students first is the most critical priority and that educators should work to mold the whole child, catering to their emotional and social needs.
Currently, a C-rated school, Fulton, and teachers are working with the Florida Assessment Student Achievement test, leading the effort to turn it into an A. She and other administrators are meeting with all teachers to ensure they can help each student reach their full potential.
Before becoming an assistant principal, Fulton was an Exceptional Student Education specialist, a media specialist, and a fourth and fifth-grade teacher at Watkins Elementary School. She loved interacting with students.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Florida, an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, and a master’s in education leadership from Nova Southeastern. She is working on a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
