A man faces multiple charges, including sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, and robbery, after allegedly raping and choking a woman inside a Coral Springs La Quinta hotel room.
The assault marks the second serious crime inside the La Quinta located at 3100 North University Drive within 24 hours after CSPD arrested a man for false imprisonment and domestic assault charges at the hotel on June 20.
According to the police report, on June 21, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a 911 call from the La Quinta in response to a female victim who alleged she was brutally assaulted and raped.
Officers responding to the June 21 assault encountered a female victim that informed them she had arrived at the hotel around midnight to meet a man, later identified as Deion Lawson, 28, of Coral Springs, for an agreed-upon sexual encounter, according to the police report.
The victim admitted to officers that she had agreed to provide sexual services to Lawson for a fee of $150 and that when she arrived, Lawson took her to a nearby store to purchase liquor before their date.
After hours of drinking, the victim told CSPD Lawson “snapped” and accused her of lying to him before beginning his violent assault.
During the altercation, the victim alleges that Lawson began raping and choking, causing her to lose consciousness, according to the police report.
The victim reported that she cried out for him to stop, but Lawson ignored her pleas and continued to repeatedly choke and sexually assault her.
According to the arrest report, the victim told officers at one point during the assault; Lawson told her, “I’m going to kill you, you fucking bitch!”
The victim suffered visible injuries, including bruising to her arms, redness on her neck, petechiae around her face and eyes, and a forehead hematoma. She also complained of pain in her rib cage and a headache, which she attributed to oxygen deprivation during the strangulation, according to the police report.
Upon a search of the hotel premises, CSPD located Lawson still in the area, sitting inside his nearby vehicle. Officers took him into custody and transported him to the Coral Springs Police Department for questioning.
During the interview, Lawson admitted to engaging in consensual sex with the victim, using a condom on the first occasion. However, he claimed to have “snapped” during a subsequent encounter, engaging in unprotected intercourse despite the victim’s protests.
Lawson also confessed to choking the victim three times during the incident, restricting her from leaving the hotel room, and stealing her cell phone before finally allowing her to go.
He told officers he believed the alcohol caused him to choke the victim “for ten long seconds” and that his intoxication was the reason he raped her, according to the report.
The police recovered the victim’s phone from Lawson’s possession at the time of his arrest, confirming the victim’s account and adding a robbery charge to his crimes.
After his interview and subsequent confessions, Lawson was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
