It’s not too late to sign up for camp! Next Stop Broadway, in conjunction with the Coral Springs Institute for the Performing Arts, still has a few spots available for their second summer camp session where they will be presenting the theatrical production of Bye Bye Birdie.
Also, there is still limited space in their teen camp for students in 9th grade or higher starting on July 6, which will be putting on a full scale production of Into the Woods.
Both camps, which perform at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, runs through August 2015, when students will top off each session with a full-scale production. Campers will have the chance to enjoy the magic of Disney’s Frozen with Frozen-themed activities all summer long. The program is categorized by age and is taught by their CSI seasoned professionals. Students will take part in acting, dancing and singing, as well as other fun camp activities.
Cynthia O’Brien, the program’s artistic director, says this program not only focuses on art but also encourages powerful people.
“We don’t just put on plays. We train people how to succeed,” she says. “I’ve seen so many students become aware of their own self-strength. It takes 80 percent hard work and 20 percent guts to succeed in life, no matter what job you do.”
O’Brien, a respected actress, director, playwright and producer who has performed in various national Broadway touring productions, says the CSI program emerged in the 1990s after more and more liberal arts programs were cut from the public school system. The CSI program has since been committed to helping students fulfill their niche.
Youth Camp
Youth Camp is designed for children in first through eighth grade (ages 6-13). There are two more sessions running through August 21. Each camp session will end in a full scale theatrical production. The remaining performances this summer will be Bye Bye Birdie (June 29-July 24) and Annie (July 27-August 21). School begins on August 24th.
The three week session will be $735 and the 4 week sessions will be $980.
Teen Camp
Students in 9th grade or higher can enroll in the Teen Camp. This camp runs a full 5 weeks, from July 6 until August 7. The students will be putting on a full scale production for Into the Woods at the conclusion of the session. The full price of the teen camp is $1,050.
