A Coral Springs man was arrested after police said an alleged hours-long beating and choking left a woman unable to walk, unconscious at one point, and hospitalized.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Mark Anthony Scott, 48, was arrested May 4 and charged with domestic battery by strangulation, domestic battery, and depriving a victim of 911 communication.
According to police, officers responded to a residence in the 8400 block of Northwest 35th Street after a medical call. Before the call was dispatched, the same caller had contacted 911, and dispatchers allegedly heard a male voice in the background telling the caller to “hang up the phone.”
When dispatchers called back, a woman said she was trying to order an Uber, had a dislocated bone, and needed medical assistance, the affidavit states.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with Scott, who allegedly told them his girlfriend was inside the residence and needed medical help. Inside, officers found the woman, who appeared fearful and had visible bruising on her neck and injuries to her lips, according to police.
“I need medical help,” the woman told officers, according to the affidavit.
Police said the woman appeared to want to speak privately, so officers separated her from Scott and escorted her outside. According to the affidavit, she was unable to walk without assistance. Once outside, the woman allegedly told officers, “Get him away from me. He beat me up, punched me, choked me, and threw me on the ground.”
The woman was taken by Fire Rescue for further medical treatment.
The affidavit states the woman told police that Scott began arguing with her about infidelity. During the argument, she alleged Scott dragged her by her hair from the garage to the driveway and began striking her.
Police said the woman reported that once back inside Scott’s bedroom, the alleged assault continued for three or four hours, throughout the night. She told officers Scott repeatedly struck her, kicked her, dragged her by her hair, left to get another drink, then returned and continued berating and battering her.
During one of the alleged assaults, the woman said Scott choked her until she lost consciousness, which she said contributed to gaps in her memory.
Scott was arrested and transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail, where he is held without bond.
