Kimaya Duboulay loves to play the flute and is a member of the Ramblewood Middle School band program.
She was among 96 Ramblewood band students who earned a superior rating at the solo and ensemble Music Performance Assessment (MPA) at Coral Springs Charter School on April 24 and 25.
“I practiced a lot and enjoy playing the flute,” said Duboulay, a seventh grader who hopes to join the Coral Springs High School band.
Saige Evans, a seventh-grade trombone player who aspires to join the J.P. Taravella High School band, also earned a superior rating. “I’m happy with my rating; I practiced a lot,” Evans said.
In addition to these honors, Ramblewood sent 41 more students, all of whom earned excellent ratings.
Earlier in March, both the honors band and symphonic band achieved straight superior ratings at the MPA at Dillard High School.
Band director Paul Gallinal said he was proud of the band students’ accomplishments. “They have all worked hard to learn the music, and we have a strong class,” he said.
The band program is now preparing to perform at a spring concert with the J.P. Taravella High School band on May 21 at Taravella.
The Ramblewood chorus and orchestra programs have also been doing very well. The beginning and treble chorus earned superior ratings at a choral MPA in early March, and the orchestra earned an overall superior rating at a separate orchestra MPA in early March, according to Lorrelle Jock, who directs both programs.
“Ramblewood Middle has a strong music program, including band, chorus, and orchestra. Many students sing in the chorus and also play in the band and orchestra. I have seen many students who really buy into our music program,” she said.
