The Ramblewood Middle School three choruses continue to earn high honors, earning them a trip to Disney World.
During the March 6 Music Performance Assessment held at Dillard Performing Arts High School, the Bel Canto Treble Chorus, made up of girls, earned straight superior ratings, the highest possible.
The Allegro Chorus, made up of boys, earned straight excellent ratings, the second-highest rating possible.
The Raider Singers, considered the beginning chorus, earned straight superior ratings on the stage and excellent sight-reading ratings.
Each choir sang two songs and was evaluated on tone quality, technical preparation, and musical effect. After singing, they went to a room off-stage and were assessed on sight reading.
“I am impressed with how all the choirs performed, and I am incredibly proud of all the students and how hard they worked to achieve such great results,” said choir director Lorrelle Jock.
To celebrate, all the Ramblewood singers took a trip to Disney World.
“We spent two days and visited the Magic Kingdom. The kids had a good time and went on the rides. It was a way to celebrate the end of a busy season.”
Jock works to foster a positive culture in the Ramblewood choruses.
“We have a happy culture. Our music department works hard to create opportunities for our students, and we want students to have a chance to make friends,” said Jock.
The three choruses comprise 160 students. They learn to read music and overcome anxiety about performing. Many develop a passion for singing and music and continue singing in high school, according to Jock.
