Brooklyn-style ice cream and Italian ices are now being served in Coral Springs.
Uncle Louie G offers 47 Italian Ice flavors and 30 ice cream flavors. It also offers kosher, sugar-free, and vegan ice cream and ices.
After moving from Brooklyn to South Florida, the sisters Denise and Andrea Mormile wanted a new start. Both worked in finance, and Denise also served in nursing.
They also realized the Italian Ices they had enjoyed in Brooklyn were hard to find locally. After some research and discussion, they decided to pursue a franchise with Uncle Louie G Italian Ices & Ice Cream and opened a new store on March 28.
“We felt it was a way to bring our history to Florida and wanted to do something different. Ice cream and ices are fun and happy; this was the business for us,” said Denise, the older sister.
Denise’s daughter, Drea Miglino, is helping to run the business. She remembers not finding the Italian Ice treats she had enjoyed in Brooklyn. Denise’s mother, two younger daughters, and son will also work in the business. “I would like to expand this business and open more of them in the area,” Drea said.
The store also offers catering services, which Drea hopes to develop further.
Based in Staten Island, NY, Uncle Louie G operates in eight different states and has more than 45 franchises. The company’s website tells the story of how it all started in 1959 in Brooklyn. Back then, kids would play stickball on the streets, and on hot days, they would buy ice treats from Louie G at his stoop. From these humble beginnings, the Uncle Louie G business was born.
The shop is located at 9866 West Sample Road. The Coral Springs-Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated its opening day with a ribbon cutting.
