Sharkey’s Bar and Grill {Photos by Adam Baron}
Good old Sharkey’s Bar and Grill. In three decades, I have watched this business move locations, change owners, and be revitalized as the most popular neighborhood bar/live music venue in Coral Springs.
Cigarette smoking inside is gone. Sharkey’s expanded the interior with a vast stage and state-of-the-art sound system, and improvements in service and food are very noticeable.
To do this place justice, I decided to recruit two people to assist me with writing this review.
I did this because Richie Kushner, the owner of Sharkey’s Bar and Grill, is a good friend of mine. To be transparent, I had to recuse myself from completing this review alone.
To make this happen, I bought the reviewers food to share. Yes, I paid for everything, and nothing was free.
They discussed each item and critiqued them accordingly.
My reviewers have never met or been to Sharkeys Bar and Grill before. I appreciate them taking the time to assist me. They did a great job!

Ambiance
Sharky’s Bar and Grill is best described as a sports bar, neighborhood saloon, and live music venue fusion. It is pretty unique because of the size of the permanent stage.
They have an outdoor seating area with a bar and TVs, which I heard is scheduled to be remodeled soon.
Walking through the doors, you notice the ample space with high ceilings. There is a seating area to the left and a massive stage to the right. There is a long bar on the left side and more seating on the right. Big televisions are everywhere, and there are two pool tables in the far back.
As a bonus and little-known pop art fact, Sharky’s Bar and Grill is home to several tables that used to grace the long-closed Wilt Chamberlain’s Sports Bar in Boca Raton, Florida.
These tables have caricatures of famous sports heroes on the top. They caught my eye when I went to Wilt’s back in the day, and I was so excited when I first saw them at Sharky’s Bar and Grill.
I have no idea who the artist is/was, but I love the history behind them. Plus, they are cool as hell.
These tables were refurbished to their original glory by their owner, Richie, and they are a must-see.
I mentioned Sharky’s Bar and Grill has a huge stage. Well, they pride themselves in hosting live local bands all the time. The best part about this is there is no cover charge.
I recently attended the Marine Corps Birthday Party, and the band Smoking Aces played. What an excellent event! There must have been over 200 people at this party.
The band was outstanding, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Just for the record, the music is loud, so prepare yourself.
I would have to say there is nothing like Sharkey’s Bar and Grill in Northwest Broward County.
The Food
This is your basic sports bar/pub food with the addition of a raw bar.

Randle’s Review
What was your favorite food item?
“The Richie-Style Chicken Wings were great. It’s hard to find good ones. They’re usually too small, but not here. They have a fantastic texture and taste and are not dependent on being spicy for flavor.
I am not a tater-tot guy, but the ones here are the best. Everything was excellent!”
What was your least favorite food item?
“It’s hard to say what my least favorite was. Usually, I do not go to sports bars, but this place was not bad at all.”
Kymberly’s Review
What was your favorite food item?
“I enjoyed the Oyster Rockefella; that creamy spinach finish was delicious. The Mushroom Burger and Tater Tots were also a favorite; large slices of mushrooms were perfect, and it was definitely a napkin burger with how juicy it was. “
What was your least favorite food item?
“It was hard to say what was my least favorite, maybe the nachos, but that was probably because it was served after the burger. That was a hard act to follow. I would say four beers for pub grub. “
Dan I Cook’s Food Favorites
Over the years, I’ve had good and bad food items.
But the food being pumped out now is some of the best I’ve had.
Lately, the Oysters Rockafella have been my favorite. The combination of spinach, cheese, tomatoes, and oysters with the brine is outstanding! Just look at the picture my buddy/photographer Adam Baron took. They taste as good as the picture looks.
It reminds me of a lyric from a Duran Duran song: “I smell like I sound.” Anyone familiar with Duran Duran knows the lead singer, Simon Le Bon, has to smell good. Like the Oysters Rockafella picture, it tastes as good as it looks.
The Richie Style Wings are excellent. I’m a sucker for teriyaki flavors, but when added with a heat/hot element, it takes it to another level. Sharkey’s Bar and Grill got it right with their sauce, bringing the Umami taste to the forefront. It makes a simple dish like wings elevate to a Michelin Star Level. Plus, the wings are meaty, as Randle stated. Not small like other local places.
The Buffalo Shrimp are delicious. I would guess there are 21 to 25 shrimp per pound or jumbo size. I can’t stand when I get served small shrimp because all they taste like is batter. Because their shrimp are bigger than most places, you get the full flavor of the shrimp. Mixing in buffalo hot sauce and then dipping them in some blue cheese dressing creates a perfect little bite.
Verdict
Randle’s Rating: Everything I had was great! I give Sharkey’s Bar and Grill 4 Beers.
Kymberly’s Rating: I would say 4 Beers for pub grub!
My Verdict
Sharkey’s Bar and Grill excels because you can bring your kids in for a nice lunch or to watch some sports during the day. At night, you can wear your dancing shoes and party the evening away with your friends.
In addition, all the daily food/drink specials and having an owner like Richie, who is loved by many in the community, easily earns this place 4 Beers.
Right now, Sharkey’s Bar and Grill is the most popular neighborhood pub in Northwest Broward County. Nothing comes close.
Thank you to my reviewers and Michael Mayo. Mayo, the father/administrator of the Facebook Group Let’s Eat South Florida and podcast host of Mike Mayo’s Lunchbox, stopped by to watch the review and support this small business.
Also, thank you to my photographer, Adam Baron, for the excellent pictures and to the owner, Richie, and his staff for treating us like VIPs.
Remember to tell Richie and his staff that Dan I Cook, CoralSpringsTalk.com, Randle, and Kymberly sent you!
