A Tamarac man was arrested after police said he became drunk, offensive, and disruptive inside Taco Craft in Coral Springs after yelling over a basketball bet.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Joel Algarin, 25, was charged with disorderly intoxication in a public place following the May 3 incident at Taco Craft, located at 3240 North University Drive.
According to the affidavit, officers responded to the restaurant around after receiving multiple reports of a disturbance involving an intoxicated customer.
The restaurant’s general manager told police Algarin entered Taco Craft around 1:00 p.m., sat at a table, and ordered multiple alcoholic beverages. Over time, police said Algarin became increasingly belligerent, yelling loudly inside the restaurant and disturbing other patrons. Eventually, over four hours later, the police were called.
The manager told police that he initially told Algarin to lower his voice or he would be asked to leave. Police said Algarin briefly complied before a bartender reported that he directed a vulgar sexual remark toward her. The affidavit also states Algarin used racially offensive language inside the restaurant.
Due to his behavior, the restaurant staff decided to stop serving Algarin alcohol and asked him to leave. According to police, Algarin refused, allegedly saying, “I’ll leave when I feel like it.”
Staff made multiple additional requests that he leave, and the restaurant’s executive chef escorted him out shortly before officers arrived.
Police said Algarin remained belligerent and argumentative when officers made contact with him. According to the affidavit, officers observed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, an unsteady demeanor, and the odor of alcohol on his breath.
Algarin allegedly admitted he had consumed a large quantity of alcohol and told officers he had been yelling at a television inside Taco Craft because of a sports bet on a basketball game.
Algarin was arrested and taken to the Broward County Main Jail. He was also issued a trespass warning barring him from returning to Taco Craft for 90 days.
According to booking records, his bond was set at $150.
