Everyone is Welcome to “Check” Out Chess During Open Play on Saturdays

The Mayors Chess Challenge in February turned out to be such a hit, that the City is now launching an open chess program on Saturday afternoons, starting March 21.

The event, which included several mayors and an American chess grandmaster was first created by Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan and Lauderhill Mayor Richard Kaplan last June as a way to highlight the benefits of chess in an academic environment, has now been brought to the City by newly-elected Mayor Skip Campbell, who is a law partner of Ryan’s.

The program will be open to all ages and skill level and will be held in the classroom at the Coral Springs Gymnasium from 2 – 4 p.m. every Saturday. Anyone interested in playing a friendly game of chess is welcome. This program is free and the City will provide the chess sets.? ?For more information, call 954-345-2200.
