Coral Springs Student Selected to 2016 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band

Representatives from the U.S. Army, along with other officials, paid a visit to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to congratulate Williams Paek to the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Williams, from Coral Springs has been playing saxophone for six years. He will join an elite group of musicians and color guard members who will perform during halftime at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio,Texas.

The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band recognizes the top 125 high school senior marching musicians and color guard members from across the country, showcasing their talents during the largest celebration of high school football in America, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, televised live on NBC at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

Williams’s selection was based on an extensive audition consisting of musical performances, marching technique, and an essay communicating his passion for music, dance and a desire to represent his school, community and country.

“The U.S. Army has a distinguished musical history,” said John Myers, Director of Marketing, Army Marketing and Research Group. “The skills and strengths necessary to be a successful band member are mirrored in Army Strong Soldiers. Only the strongest wear the Army colors, which is why we are proud to honor all of our 2016 U.S. Army All-American Band members and congratulate each of them on their selection.”

For more than 14 years, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been the nation’s premier high school football game, serving as the preeminent launching pad for America’s future college and NFL stars. Adrian Peterson, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Lattimore, and Andrew Luck all made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans. In the 2012 NFL Draft, Andrew Luck became the first U.S. Army All-American Bowl alumnus to be selected with the first overall pick. The 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl drew a crowd of 40,133 to the Alamodome, which set an Army Bowl record attendance.
