A Coral Springs man charged with domestic battery tried to dissuade his wife from reporting the assault by threatening to deport her.
According to the report, the Coral Springs Police Department received a call at 3:46 pm on August 4 about a domestic dispute in progress at the 3000 block of NW 118th Drive.
Once officers entered the residence, they encountered Jeremiah E Lampella, 34, who indicated he and his wife were in the midst of a dispute. According to Lampella, the dispute stemmed from his wife, the victim, who he said informed him that she was cheating on him.
Lampella admitted to officers that during the dispute, he pushed his wife in the face.
After further investigation, Lampellas’ wife was subsequently interviewed by a Spanish-speaking officer. She indicated that Lampella had a history of inflicting domestic abuse upon her.
She also said that she had not reported the incidents because Lampella has, in the past, threatened to deport her if she pressed charges against him.
Lampellas’ wife went on to tell officers that the argument at hand did not stem from her cheating on him, but from her refusal to be intimate with him the night before. She told officers that Lampella had been cheating on her with multiple women and that she had refused intimacy as a result.
She said because she refused his advances, Lampella slapped her in the face.
Officers were unable to get the victim to agree to take pictures of her injuries or give a taped statement. Since both parties agreed that Lampella was physically abusive during the ordeal, officers placed him under arrest for domestic battery.
Lampella was transported to the Coral Springs Police Department for booking before being transferred to the Broward County main jail.
