The city of Coral Springs has shut down its Kamp Kool summer camp due to a COVID-19 outbreak, officials said Saturday.
The city received notice that several people at the camp for first through fifth graders were either positive for COVID-19 or experiencing symptoms of the illness on July 23, officials said.
Before they reentered the camp on July 26, following a weekend away, the city provided rapid COVID antigen tests to all Kamp Kool campers and counselors.
“Twelve people were identified as potentially positive as a result of antigen rapid testing,” said city spokesperson Lynne Martzall.
The camp’s 150 children were sent home as a result of the outbreak.
“The safety of campers and staff was paramount, and as a result, the city canceled the remaining camp sessions,” Martzall said. “All families were reimbursed for closure dates.”
A day after the camp’s July 26 closure, Coral Springs began requiring facial coverings in all city facilities, regardless of vaccination status.
