The Coral Springs Police Department has been awarded “Excelsior Status” by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).
The recognition, awarded on Dec. 7 in St. Augustine, is the highest level of achievement in Florida accreditation a criminal justice agency can attain.
”This recognition is the highest level of achievement in Florida accreditation a criminal justice agency can attain, which demonstrates the commitment of the men and women who serve within our department,” said Chief Brad McKeone.
To receive accreditation, an agency must meet a set of standards, including demonstrating compliance with all applicable mandatory standards and at least 80 percent of applicable non-mandatory standards. This is assessed through a formal review of the agency’s policies, procedures, and practices by an assessment team sent by the CFA. Agencies remain accredited for three years, after which they must go through the reaccreditation process.
The Coral Springs Police Department has been an accredited law enforcement agency since 1999 and first received Excelsior status in 2013. This latest reaccreditation marks the department’s fifth time receiving Excelsior status and 15 years without any conditions from the CFA.
McKeone added, “The Latin word Excelsior translated into English means *Ever Upward,’ and that is exactly what our department strives to do in service to our community every single day.”
