A woman faces charges of assaulting a school board member after an altercation with a Riverside Elementary behavioral specialist.
On February 28, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a delayed battery report from Riverside Elementary School involving a parent and a school employee, according to arrest records.
CSPD records show that upon arrival, officers were informed that Chaquanette Lewis, 39, from Fort Lauderdale, had visited the school due to reported behavioral issues concerning her 8-year-old son.
According to witnesses, Lewis was belligerent and used profane language towards staff members. The incident escalated when a school employee, who was overseeing Lewis’s son while he used the bathroom, was assaulted.
The victim, a full-time Broward County School Board member and behavioral specialist, had the bathroom door partially closed for the child’s privacy. Lewis reportedly used vulgar language towards the victim and, without provocation, kicked the victim’s foot with her bare foot, according to the police report.
Multiple staff members witnessed the assault and provided statements to law enforcement. Lewis was uncooperative with officers and refused to give any information at the time, according to police.
On May 20, a warrant was issued for Lewis’s arrest. She was taken into custody on May 22 and charged with battery of a school employee.
Lewis was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where she was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
