Denise Malcolm {BSO}
A Coral Springs woman who murdered her husband over what she said were his lies and infidelity was sentenced in 21 years in state prison, court records show.
Denise Nicole Malcolm, 46, entered a plea of no-contest to a charge of second-degree murder on June 11 as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. Her sentence will include credit for 285 days already served in jail, according to the records.
Malcolm must also pay $23,500 in restitution to the Crimes Compensation Trust Fund, administered by the Florida Attorney General’s Office, records show.
In a videotaped confession at Coral Springs Police headquarters, Malcolm told detectives that Rohan Noel Malcolm, 52, had been unfaithful to her over the previous two years, leading to frequent arguments and their sleeping in separate bedrooms.
The couple’s dispute came to a head at their home in the 10500 block of Northwest 43rd St. on Aug. 31, 2024.
When they returned home from shopping that day for a planned Labor Day barbecue, Rohan Malcolm unexpectedly announced to his wife he was leaving to go to Port St. Lucie with his friends, an arrest affidavit states.
According to the records, Denise Malcolm believed her husband was lying and was actually going to see his mistress. This issue led to a heated argument and, in a rage, Malcolm went to her bedroom closet and grabbed a handgun, police said.
Malcolm then loaded a round into the chamber and shot her husband multiple times, according to detectives.
Malcolm said she was also contemplating shooting herself until her wounded husband, lying on the bedroom floor, “said something to her that made her stop her thoughts of suicide and shoot him for a final time,” her arrest affidavit states.
Police received a 911 call shortly after 6:30 p.m. from one of the Malcolms’ children reporting the shooting. They arrived a short time later and took Denise Malcolm into custody.
It was not immediately clear on Monday in which state prison Malcolm would serve her sentence.
