U.S. Department of Homeland Security Funds Earmarked for Bolstering Coral Springs’ Security

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is helping Coral Springs bolster its Real Time Crime Center with a fresh round of funding, city records show.
A sum of $291,000 has been allocated to Coral Springs’ city government through DHS’s Urban Areas Security Initiative Program, which helps local law enforcement in metro areas protect against terrorism.
Coral Springs, considered part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale region by DHS, will use the federal dollars to buy equipment for its Real Time Crime Center, implement two-factor security technology in its Information Technology Department, buy gas meters for the city fire department, and make improvements to a regional emergency response center, records show.
Overall, the region will receive nearly $12.4 million in DHS grant money to bolster security.
The city commission is scheduled to formalize an agreement to accept its share of the grant money at its Wednesday night meeting.
Also, on Wednesday, commissioners are expected to approve Coral Springs Police Chief Brad Mock’s request to authorize a donation of $2,500 in law enforcement trust funds to the Florida Missing Children’s Day Foundation, records show.
