As micromobility options such as electric bicycles and scooters become increasingly common on Florida roadways, the Coral Springs City Commission is backing state legislation aimed at improving safety, clarity, and responsible use.
At a recent meeting, commissioners approved a resolution supporting Resolution 2026-002, along with Senate Bill 382 and House Bill 243, which seek to strengthen statewide regulations governing electric bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles.
The proposed measures update Florida’s traffic laws to better reflect the growing presence of micromobility devices and promote safer interactions among riders, pedestrians, and motorists.
According to the resolution, the legislation would clarify definitions for electric bicycles and scooters, establish consistent safety requirements and penalties, and expand education efforts by incorporating safe-operation questions into driver’s license exams.
City officials say the changes are intended to reduce crashes, improve compliance, and encourage responsible use across all modes of transportation.
In a statement, Coral Springs officials will continue to monitor state legislation and advocate for policies that enhance safety, support responsible transportation choices, and reflect the needs of a growing and changing community.
