A Forest Glen Middle School employee in Coral Springs has been arrested after investigators say he improperly rented out the school’s gym for basketball tournaments and kept the payments, according to law enforcement records.
Shaune Cannon, 50, worked as a behavioral technician at Forest Glen Middle School. Police say he arranged basketball tournaments at the campus gym without district authorization and directed payments to himself. Cannon was arrested Saturday and charged with an organized scheme to defraud involving $20,000 or less and grand theft exceeding $10,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators reviewed bank records showing that Cannon received multiple $1,500 Zelle payments from two basketball organizations for gym access in April, May, and June 2025. Police estimated the unauthorized use resulted in $11,545 in potential losses to the Broward County School District. Leaders of both organizations told police they paid Cannon for the use of the gym.
Cannon resigned from his position on Friday, a day before his arrest, according to the Sun Sentinel. He began working for the school district in 2011 and previously worked at Ramblewood Middle School, according to the newspaper.
The case is the fourth involving alleged misuse of school facilities by district employees, who are accused of renting them out for profit. Those previously charged include Brenton Hankerson, a girls’ varsity coach at Coral Springs High School, and Donald Calloway, an assistant girls’ basketball coach at the same school.
