The postseason was in full swing this week as high schools across Coral Springs competed in the District Tournament.
The Coral Glades boys team captured another District Championship after earning the top seed and a first-round bye. The Jaguars defeated Marjory Stoneman Douglas 81–38 in the semifinals, marking their second win over the Eagles this season. Coral Glades then dominated Park Vista Community High School 73–34 in the championship game to secure the district title.
The Jaguars enter Regionals as the third seed with a 19–7 record and will face West Broward High School in the opening round on Thursday, February 12 at 7 p.m.. The Bobcats are 17–7 this season and fell to Cypress Bay High School in the District Tournament.
The winner will advance to face either Miami Palmetto or Pembroke Pines Charter. Top-seeded Christopher Columbus High School sits on the opposite side of the bracket, along with Doral Academy, Cypress Bay, and Western High School.
The Coral Glades girls team saw its season come to an end in the opening round with a loss to Boca Raton Community High School. The Lady Jaguars finished the season 6–9, while Boca Raton advanced to face Park Vista Community High School in the semifinals.
The Coral Springs Charter boys team opened district play with a convincing 76–36 win as the fourth seed. The Panthers scored at least 17 points in all four quarters and allowed just four points in the second quarter. Charter advanced to face top-ranked Calvary Christian Academy—ranked first in Florida and second nationally—in the semifinals, where the Panthers fell 69–20.
The Coral Springs High School boys team entered districts as the third seed and opened with a dominant 70–36 win over Deerfield Beach High School. The Colts followed with a 53–23 victory over Boyd H. Anderson High School to reach the district championship game, where they fell to St. Thomas Aquinas High School—ranked fifth in the state and 30th nationally—by a 90–65 margin.
Despite the loss, the Colts advanced to Regionals and will face Boyd H. Anderson High School again on Saturday, February 14, at 7 p.m. Boyd H. Anderson enters with a 15–9 record, and the winner will advance to play either St. Thomas Aquinas or Mater Academy Charter. Dwyer and Plantation High School will also compete in the bracket.
The Coral Springs High School girls’ team defeated Fort Lauderdale High School for the second time this season. After winning the first meeting 59–19, the second-seeded Lady Colts earned a 59–16 victory to advance to the championship game against St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where they lost 69–29.
The Lady Colts also advanced to Regionals as the fifth seed and will play American Heritage–Lakes Academy on Friday, February 13, at 7 p.m. The Lions are 18–7 this season and defeated Homestead High School in the District Championship. The winner will face either St. Thomas Aquinas or Homestead. Nova, Dwyer, Marin County, and South Broward High School also qualified for Regionals.
The J.P. Taravella boys team, seeded fourth, earned a 53–49 win over Piper High School in its opening district game before falling to Cypress Bay High School 54–46. The Trojans finished the season with a 15–7 record. The J.P. Taravella girls’ team also saw its season end with a loss to West Broward High School and finished 7–8.
