Coral Springs High School girls basketball had a pair of players sign to play college basketball, marking the ninth straight year the Colts had at least two players sign.
Camryn Smith is headed to Anna Maria College in Massachusetts.
“It feels great to officially be committed,” Smith said. “This is something I’ve dreamed about for years, and I am super excited to get onto campus and play.”
Smith started playing basketball in Tamarac and Coral Springs recreational leagues in fifth grade. After that, she played for Sawgrass Springs Middle School and played AAU for Bad Girls Basketball. Smith began at Coral Glades in high school before transferring to Coral Springs High School for her junior and senior years.
During those two years on varsity, the Lady Colts won 30 games, including one District Championship. Smith averaged 11.1 points per game, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. For College, Smith attended Anna Maria College, where everyone was so welcoming, and the campus immediately felt like home. She also realized she wanted to attend a college out of state and play basketball, which ultimately led her to make this decision.
Anna Maria University went 15-11 a season ago, as Smith hopes to circumvent the difficulties of being a small guard playing on a collegiate level. Her plans included hitting the gym to get stronger, incorporating additional cardio to strengthen her endurance, and hitting the courts to continue strengthening her handles and shot.
“I don’t wish to simply be on a team,” Smith added. “I aspire to be an asset to my team, and I plan to put in the work to make that happen. I’m extremely excited about this opportunity.”
After playing alongside Smith in high school, Trinity Dajuste is signed to Montreat College in North Carolina.
“It feels great to officially sign; it proves to me that all of the hard work has paid off. I’m grateful for the opportunity and am looking forward to what comes next at Montreat.”
Dajuste began playing recreational basketball for the city of Margate, then joined Badgirls Basketball in eighth grade. She went on to meet two of her favorite coaches, Don Calloway and Brenton Hankerson, where Dajuste says she developed not only as a player but as a person. During her time on varsity at CSHS, she averaged 7.9 points per game, along with 1.7 steals for a team that reached Regionals.
Dajuste is also a star in track and field. She took first place in the high jump at Districts and went on to compete at Regionals and State in the long jump and high jump.
Dajuste felt Montreat seemed like a good fit, with good academics and a supportive basketball program that suited her. She also established a strong relationship with the coaches and wants to improve in all areas of her game before joining a team that went 17-11 a season ago.
