A male riding an electric bicycle was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a pickup truck at a Coral Springs intersection, according to police.
On Feb. 10, around 4:30 p.m., the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Coral Ridge Drive and Eagle Trace Boulevard. The crash involved a white 2022 Nissan pickup truck and a black RadRunner Plus electric bicycle, a police spokesperson said.
A preliminary investigation by police found that the Nissan pickup was traveling west from 19th Street at Coral Ridge Drive and proceeded through a green traffic signal while making a left turn to travel southbound on Coral Ridge Drive, police said. During the turn, the vehicle collided with the electric bicycle, which was traveling east on 19th Street, according to investigators.
Video evidence of the incident was obtained by investigators, police said. One witness remained at the scene and provided a statement.
The driver of the Nissan pickup remained at the scene and was not injured, police said. Their name, gender, and age were not made public.
The electric bicycle rider was transported by the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said. The male’s name and age have not been made public.
The investigation into the crash is active, and no additional information will be released, police said.
