A man was arrested on charges of aggravated stalking and violating a domestic violence injunction after police say he called a hotel receptionist more than 80 times in one day.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department report, Joel Dimas Lopez-Santana, 26, of Margate, was arrested on February 26 following a reported violation of an injunction and aggravated stalking against a victim who alerted law enforcement of his continued harassment.
The victim told police that Lopez-Santana repeatedly called both her personal cellphone and her workplace landline while she was working as a hotel front desk receptionist in Coral Springs. Police say the calls exceeded 80 attempts throughout the day.
Because her job required her to answer incoming calls, the victim reported that the repeated contact caused her substantial emotional distress, fear, and interfered with her ability to work.
During brief conversations, Lopez-Santana allegedly asked for forgiveness and pleaded with her not to contact law enforcement. He also allegedly contacted other employees and instructed them to have her return his calls.
In addition to the phone calls, the victim reported receiving multiple login verification emails indicating attempts to access and change passwords on her personal accounts. When confronted by phone, Lopez-Santana allegedly admitted to initiating the login attempts to get her to contact him.
MPD officers located and detained Lopez-Santana at his Margate residence. He was later transported to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
