A Coral Springs woman died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
Antoinette Biamonte, 81, a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the March 30 collision, was rushed to Broward Health North and pronounced dead later that day, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at around 12:55 p.m. at the intersection of West Copans Road and Northwest Third Avenue in Pompano Beach.
According to a preliminary investigation by BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit, a 2022 Jeep Wrangler driven by Michelle Tampellini, 35, of Deerfield Beach, was traveling westbound on West Copans Road approaching Northwest Third Avenue. At the same time, a 2011 Lincoln MKS sedan driven by Teresa Masone, 56, of Pompano Beach, was traveling eastbound on West Copans Road toward the same intersection. Biamonte was seated in the front passenger seat of the Lincoln.
Detectives said that as both vehicles entered the intersection, the driver of the Jeep made a left turn directly into the path of the Lincoln. The front passenger side of the Jeep struck the front driver’s side of the Lincoln in what investigators described as an angular, head-on collision.
The impact caused the Jeep to rotate counterclockwise and roll southeast toward the sidewalk. The Lincoln was redirected south and came to rest facing south in front of the northbound lanes of Northwest Third Avenue, investigators said.
Deputies rushed to the scene along with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. The occupants of the Lincoln were rushed to Broward Health North, while the driver of the Jeep remained at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
