A former manager at an assisted living facility in Coral Springs is facing a series of second-degree felony charges after investigators say she financially exploited an 82-year-old woman under her care.
According to Plantation Police Department arrest records, Anita Sandy Hasnali, 35, of Sunrise, was arrested on November 19 and charged with multiple felony counts, including fraud.
Arrest records show that Hasnali worked as an administrator at Home Care Villas, located at 9039 Northwest 20th Manor, and the victim was a resident when the crime took place.
Investigators also noted that the case initially began with the Plantation Police Department, but Coral Springs Police are conducting a separate investigation into allegations involving the same victim.
According to court documents, the victim’s brother manages the woman’s finances and first noticed a fraudulent pattern in her purchases, including an unusually long list of purchases on her Costco credit card. The man told officers the charges were not normal for his sister, and when asked, the victim told investigators she did not make them.
Detectives say that between July 22 and August 19, more than $2,600 in unauthorized purchases were made using the victim’s account. According to the victim’s brother, this raises alarms because it far exceeds the typical $200 to $300 charged to the card each month.
Hasnali is accused of using the card to shop across several South Florida cities, including Plantation, Margate, Sunrise, Tamarac, and Coral Springs.
Hasnali was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where she was later released after posting a $65,000 bond.
