Kelly and Brownie {Broward County Animal Care}
Broward County Animal Care is spotlighting two dogs in need of forever homes: Kelly, a 2-year-old American Staffordshire terrier mix, and Brownie, an 11-year-old American Staffordshire terrier mix.
Kelly, identified as A2456705, arrived at the shelter in November after being surrendered by her owner. The 55-pound spayed female has had a difficult time adjusting to the kennel environment, where staff says she often appears anxious, jumping, barking, and even hitting her head against the kennel door.
Outside of the kennel, however, Kelly shows a very different personality. Shelter staff describes her as happy, playful, and affectionate. She enjoys chasing tennis balls, playing, and going on long walks. Because of her strength and energy on a leash, Kelly would do best with someone able to manage an active dog. She has also been able to coexist with other dogs in playgroups.
Brownie, identified as A2466247, came to Animal Care in January after being involuntarily separated from his owner. Although the neutered male is considered a senior at 11 years old, staff say he remains energetic and enthusiastic.
The 47-pound dog is known for his chocolate brindle coat and long legs. Brownie enjoys walks, interacting with people, and receiving treats. He also knows how to sit on command and appears to be housebroken, as he keeps his kennel clean.
Both dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Residents can meet Kelly, Brownie, and other adoptable pets at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale.
The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a microchip, with adopters paying $25 for the Broward County registration tag.
More information about available pets is available at PetAdoptions.Broward.org.
