Broward Health just hit the refresh button on healthcare, swapping clipboards and paper trails to a cutting-edge electronic health record system.
Epic is a nationally recognized electronic health record (EHR) system. The project, which involved more than a year of training and technology upgrades by over 11,000 team members, officially went live on November 2.
Epic Systems, a healthcare software company founded in 1979, is used by many prestigious healthcare organizations, including the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
“This significant upgrade is not just about integrating new technology, but about redefining patient care and streamlining operations,” said Shane Strum, President & CEO of Broward Health. “We’re committed to enhancing the overall healthcare experience, bringing our community the latest iterations of healthcare.”
Epic’s integration provides seamless communication among healthcare providers across South Florida and globally. This will benefit not only residents of the region but also visitors relying on Broward Health for their medical needs.
“For years, Broward Health has been a cornerstone of healthcare in the region, serving a diverse population with a wide range of medical needs,” said Ray Berry, North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioner. “Not only does Epic allow for real-time communication and collaboration among healthcare providers, but it also provides patient-friendly features like MyChart, which gives patients direct access to their health information.”
The launch included MyChart, a secure online portal that enables patients to manage their health proactively. Through MyChart, patients can access their medical records, schedule appointments, request prescription refills, and communicate directly with their healthcare providers via a web browser or mobile app.
Broward Health plans to continually optimize Epic, benefiting from regular updates and new functionalities. Future enhancements include artificial intelligence features designed to streamline workflows further and improve patient outcomes.
