It has been an incredible week at Coral Glades, with four varsity teams picking up their first win of the season.
The boys and girls lacrosse teams picked up their first win on Thursday, defeating Pompano Beach High School.
After dropping their first two games of the season, the boys team won 6-4 to move to 1-2. They are coming off a season where they went 7-8 and picked up their first win in school history during the District Tournament.
Jarrett Archer and Timothy Brucker scored twice. Austin Alison and Joshua Singh each had one goal, Joesph Torregrossa made seven saves, and Ryan Steinberg had nine face-off wins.
The girls won 14-1 and have already matched their win total from last year after going 1-7. Haylie Premo scored five goals, Allura Buevlas had four, leading the teams with 21 draw wins, Allison Patino had four, and Alexandra Munson recorded one. In net, Trystyn Deherrera made 21 saves.
“I’m very proud of both of my teams,” said Head Coach Kyle O’Neil. “We set out today to get two victories. Back to work tomorrow.”
The Coral Glades softball team defeated Coral Springs High School to win their first game of the season.
Head Coach Richard Waldorf said, “We have a solid mix of young and more experienced players, and the game was a great opportunity so early in the season for our girls to work on their skills and gain confidence, and that is quite valuable.”
Ciara Gendron, Casie Kazanjian, Shelby Stephens, and Raquel Christie all drove in two runs, while MacKenzie Wolfe, Carmela Smith, Cameron Marques, Mia Cupo, Hannah Grandez, and Dominque Soto had one. Gendron also struck out seven in three hitless innings.
The baseball team also picked up their first win with a 7-3 win over McArthur High School. Andrew Allison pitched five innings with ten strikeouts to earn the win, Jordan Archer threw the final two innings and had six strikeouts, and Aydan Gonzalez went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs.
The Jaguars went 11-8 last year and beat Deerfield Beach High School in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to Marjory Stoneman Douglas. They are ended up falling 3-2 in their next game agains Everglades High School and will return to the field on Wednesday, March 1 against Monarch High School,. The Knights are 1-1 this year with their win coming against Everglades. The Knights won 3-0 in the only meeting last year against Coral Glades.
