An Interact Club is coming to Coral Glades High School.
The service club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coral Springs, has received interest from 45 students and will hold its first meeting after school on August 25.
Interact advisor Steven Beauchamp is looking forward to helping the club become successful on campus. “We are all about service above self, and I want to encourage young people to become involved in the community,” he said.
During the fall, Interact will meet every other Monday at 2:45 p.m. Those who can’t attend during this time can participate through Canvas.
Every Broward public school student must complete 40 hours of service to earn a diploma. Interact will provide members with an opportunity to earn those hours, according to Beauchamp.
The Coral Glades Interact members will collaborate with various non-profit organizations in the community. To participate, students must have their parents complete a permission form and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. During the first meetings, Beauchamp and the new members will get to know each other, and eventually, leaders will be chosen.
“We will teach the students about teamwork and the importance of community involvement,” said Beauchamp.
Freddy Farraj, president-elect of the Rotary Club of Coral Springs, is excited about the club at Coral Glades. He believes the students will learn leadership skills through hands-on projects and the value of giving back. He has three children at Coral Glades, and they are helping to organize the club.
“I want to encourage civic responsibility by connecting students with meaningful community service opportunities and helping young people build connections between students and local leaders, preparing them for success beyond high school,” said Farraj.
