Shrek the Musical is coming to Coral Springs.
The Coral Springs High School Drama program will perform the beloved musical on February 22, 23, and 24. Approximately 50 drama students, many with experience performing, are involved in this production.
According to Director Barbara Krantz, Shrek the Musical is similar to the film of the same name. The play tells the story of Shrek, a character rejected by society due to his unusual appearance and living a solitary life in a swamp. One day, a group of fairytale characters arrive on his property, and he has to figure out how to deal with them. As the story progresses, Shrek eventually falls in love with a princess.
Krantz explains that this musical includes many dancing and singing scenes, and students have created the set.
“Our leads have been acting all four years here, and they have worked hard to put on this musical. This is going to be an exciting show,” said Krantz.
The lead characters are Shrek (Tajdel Bruneus), Fiona (Angelina Nazar), Donkey (Sean Jenkins), and Lord Farquaad (Tristan Chung).
Jenkins plays Donkey and has been in productions at Coral Springs High for four years. Natalie Henry, who plays Pinocchio, said, “I have been in drama for four years, and for me, it is home.”
The play will be at the Coral Springs High School auditorium on Thursday, February 22, Friday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, February 24, at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Kids under 5 are free; students with ID and senior citizens are $12, and general admission is $15.
Kranztz said, “This play shows us that it is OK to be different.”
