Coral Springs Charter softball completed their regular season in style, winning the Big-Eight Championship.
The Panthers improved to 22-3 this year and won their first game 2-0 against South Plantation High School behind a complete game shutout from Courtney Wahlbrink. Addison Michel and Stephanie Basso recorded RBIs before Wahlbrink tossed six hitless innings in their win over Cardinal Gibbons. Gia Schirripa threw the final inning to record the shutout, giving Head Coach Mark Montimurro his 600th career win.
In the final, CSC beat Western High School 10-3, with Kate Maston and Giovanni Gurgel hit home runs. Gurgel finished with four RBIs, while Basso and Cameron Thiele also drove in runs. Wahlbrink also tossed a complete game, allowing only one earned run and struck on 10.
“The Big 8 is a war of attrition,” Montimurro said. “It’s really a tough event to win. A huge testament to the girl’s resolve.”
Next, CSC will compete in the District Championship as the top seed. They will face Pine Crest in the Semifinals on Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m. The winner of this game will play either Cardinal Gibbons or Calvary Christian Academy in the final on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m.
