Coral Springs Charter swimmer Amber Candido officially committed to continuing her athletic career at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.
“It’s really exciting, and the pressure is off trying to search and find colleges,” said Candido. “I’m excited to start fresh with a new team and new school.”
A native of Coral Springs, Candido began swimming at seven years old at Coral Springs Swim Club and competing on varsity in seventh grade.
Earlier in the season, Candido swam in both the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke in the Broward County Athletic Association Championship and finished fourth.
Candido then came in third at Districts and set a personal best at Regionals in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.75.
At States, she finished 17th in the 100-yard backstroke and was a member of the Panthers 400-yard relay team that placed in 15th alongside Riley McCormick, Briana Dattile, and Hailey Wells.
“She’s been one of the best captains and always willing to go above and beyond,” said Head Coach Sherri Wells-Smith. “She is going to do amazing things in her next adventure. She is very motivated and has lots of drive.”
After graduating in 2022, she competes for a team at the University of Mary Washington that is 4-0 and has not dropped a meet since 2019. Her future includes a career in Health Science.
