Cornerstone Development in Coral Springs {Coral Springs Talk}
Coral Springs officials are moving forward with plans to relocate and build out a new home for the Coral Springs Museum of Art, recommending a $3,427,180 construction contract with Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc. of Holyoke, Massachusetts, according to a city memo. City commissioners are scheduled to vote on the contract at Wednesday’s meeting.
The contract covers the full interior build-out of the museum’s new 8,000-square-foot gallery and offices inside the Cornerstone development at the southwest corner of Sample Road and University Drive. The project will relocate the museum from its current home at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, where the museum will still maintain space.
Funding for the build-out will come from the city’s approved Capital Budget, the memo states.
City staff used a two-step procurement method to select a qualified contractor. The first step, a Request for Application issued on May 14, 2025, sought company profiles, qualifications, references, and financial stability information from construction firms with experience completing museum gallery projects of similar size and complexity. Two firms applied for pre-qualification: Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc. and Di Pompeo Construction Corporation.
An Evaluation Committee—Deputy City Manager Julie Krolak, Public Works Director Chad Maraj, and Arts and Cultural Enrichment Director Michael McNally—reviewed the applications. Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc. was unanimously selected as the sole pre-qualified vendor allowed to participate in the bid process, according to the memo.
Next, the city prepared formal specifications and drawings for the project, completed by Wannemacher Jensen Architects, LLC. On October 16, 2025, Daniel O’Connell’s Sons, Inc. submitted a bid of $3,327,180, along with a $100,000 miscellaneous work allowance—bringing the total recommended contract price to $3,427,180. The allowance could only be used for unforeseen conditions during construction and would require city approval, officials said.
If commission members approve the contract, construction is expected to begin in December 2025 or January 2026, with completion anticipated in summer 2026, the memo states.
