From the Coral Springs City Commission:
Fall is upon us and we are excited to usher in the season with community updates, signature events, and new opportunities to come together as a community.
We are pleased to welcome Coastal Waste and Recycling as the new solid waste provider for the City of Coral Springs. We voted unanimously to approve this new contract in March and look forward to working alongside them to keep Coral Springs beautiful. We do not anticipate service disruptions, but pickup schedules may change. All residents will receive new trash and recycling carts starting October 15. That distribution is expected to take several weeks, so we appreciate your patience in case of delivery delays. Visit CoralSprings.gov/CoastalUpdates for the latest information.
Prost! Oktoberfest returns on Saturday, October 5, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the City Hall Lawn (9500 W. Sample Road.) This year’s event features Bavarian cuisine, brews, activities for all ages, and, back by popular demand, a Weiner Dog Race. Learn more at CoralSprings.gov/Oktoberfest.
Are you game? Join Vice Mayor Shawn Cerra for a friendly game of soccer as part of our Move with the Mayor series on Thursday, October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins Park (10000 Ben Geiger Drive.) All ages are invited to go outside, get active, and interact for a fun family night of sports and community.
It’s time for spooky thrills and Halloween chills! The city’s Thrills ‘N Chills Indoor Carnival will take place on Saturday, October 19 at the Coral Springs Gymnasium (2501 Coral Springs Drive) with two convenient sessions (12 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.) featuring a haunted walk-through, carnival games, music, crafts, and more. The annual Fire Department Pasta Dinner will immediately follow at the adjacent Fire Station 80 (2825 Coral Springs Drive.) Residents are encouraged to enjoy pasta and meatballs prepared by our firefighters to benefit cancer awareness. Tickets are available to purchase online.
Other events taking place this month include a Senior Health Fair, Open Play Chess, Fire Safety Jamboree, and more. For details on all upcoming events, visit the city’s website.
Budget hearings were held last month to adopt the city’s budget for fiscal year 2024. A great deal of time, attention, and planning goes into the budget process, and as your elected officials, we are committed to ensuring fiscal responsibility while meeting the needs of running a progressive and innovative city. You can view the adopted budget book on the city’s website.
This month’s Commission Meetings will take place on Tuesday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. As always, the public is invited to attend Commission meetings. The meetings are aired on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 and on AT&T U-Verse channel 99. Meetings are also live streamed on CityTV.
